Women of Mount Herzl Tour
Mount Herzl is the national military cemetery of Israel. There are two sections of the cemetery: a section for the political leaders of the country, such as Prime Ministers and Presidents, and a section for soldiers killed in service-both in active duty or reserve duty. The cemetery is designed to create a quiet resting place for those who dedicated their lives to their country. It is a moving site to visit and pay respects to the people who sacrificed their lives for the security of the country while serving in the Israel Defense Forces. A lot of different groups come to visit and pay their respects to these heroes. But many times when visiting, much of the focus is given to the men who are buried there. People like Yitzhak Rabin, Yoni Netenyahu, and Micheal Levin.
The women of Mount Herzl are often overlooked- women who made the same sacrifice as their male counterparts.
Therefore this tour focuses specifically on the women who are buried in the Mount Herzl cemetery including:
- The women of Theodore Herzlās family,
- Golda Meir,
- Hannah Szenes, and
- Hila Betzaleli
This trip is well suited for Memorial Day, Jerusalem Day, or International Women’s Day. As the tour is a maximum half day tour, we can add other sites to the day to make a full day tour. We can focus the day for young women to inspire them to lead the next generation, for our current female leaders to improve today, or for both men and women to level the fields of memory of the heroes of Israel.
